What We Actually Collect

Look, we know most privacy policies are a wall of legal text nobody reads. So here's the honest truth about what data Azwaaj collects and why.

Account Basics: When you sign up, we ask for your name, email, phone number, gender, city, and birth year. That's it. We need your birth year to verify you're 18+ (legal requirement). We need your email to send you login links and important updates.

Profile Details: Everything else is optional. Education, profession, languages, photos, partner preferences—you add these only if you want to. You can leave your profile 90% empty and still use Azwaaj.

Usage Data: Like every website, we log your IP address, device type, and which pages you visit. This helps us catch scammers and keep the platform secure. We don't use this for advertising.

Messages: Your chats are stored so you can access them later. We don't read your messages unless you report someone for abuse. Even then, we only look at the specific conversation you reported.

Photo Privacy (This Is Important)

This is where most matrimony sites fail you. They upload your photos and show them to everyone. Not us.

Blurred by Default: When you upload photos, they're instantly blurred for other members. They can see you have photos, but they can't see your face until you approve them.

You Control Access: When someone sends you interest, you can check their profile first. If you like what you see, you can unblur your photos for them. If not, your images stay hidden. You're in complete control.

Hide from Specific Places: Worried about coworkers or neighbors seeing your profile? You can block specific cities, neighborhoods, or even companies. Go to your Privacy Settings to set this up.

Delete Anytime: You can delete any photo or your entire account from Settings. No questions asked.

Verification Without ID Uploads

Most matrimony sites ask for your CNIC, passport, or government ID before you can even browse. We think that's a massive privacy red flag.

Manual Review Instead: Our team manually reviews every profile. We check for fake details, inconsistent info, and scam patterns. We don't need your ID to do this.

Optional Verification: If you want a "Verified" badge, you can share optional career or family background details. But it's your choice. You can use Azwaaj fully without uploading any government documents.

We Don't Sell Your Data

Let's be clear: We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Period.

We may share limited data with trusted service providers who help us run the site (like hosting or email services). They're contractually required to follow strict privacy rules and can't use your data for anything else.

We may disclose data if required by law, court order, or to prevent fraud and abuse. But that's it.

Your Rights (GDPR-Aligned & Local Laws)

Whether you're in Pakistan, the UK, USA, Canada, or anywhere else, you have rights over your data.

• Access: You can view all your data in your Profile Settings at any time.
• Correction: You can update your information whenever you want.
• Deletion: You can delete your account in one click. We remove or anonymize your data within 30 days, except where required by law.
• Data Portability: You can request a copy of your data in a standard format.
• Withdraw Consent: You can opt out of non-essential data collection at any time.

Legal Compliance: We follow Pakistan's data protection laws. For EU users, we are GDPR-aligned and follow data protection principles. For California residents, we follow CCPA. For other regions, we follow local data protection rules where applicable.

Mehram Feature Privacy

If you link a Mehram's account (father, brother, uncle) to help you review matches, here's what they can and cannot do:

• They CAN: See your profile, see who you're interested in, give you advice.
• They CANNOT: Message anyone on your behalf, log in as you, access your private messages, or see your photos unless you explicitly approve them.

You're always in control. You can unlink a Mehram's account at any time from your Profile Settings.

Data Security

We use industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS) for data in transit and at rest. Our servers are hosted with reputable providers who follow strict security protocols.

That said, no system is 100% secure. You also need to do your part: use a strong password, don't share it with anyone, and log out when using public computers.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you logged in and understand how the site is used (like which pages are popular). You can turn cookies off in your browser settings, but some features (like staying logged in) won't work.

Children's Privacy

Azwaaj is only for adults 18+. We don't knowingly collect data from minors. If you believe a child under 18 has created an account, contact us immediately and we'll delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally. When we do, we'll change the "Last Updated" date at the top. If the changes are significant, we'll email you or show a notice on the site.
